According to the data from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey, the number of tourists visiting Turkey has been fluctuating in recent years. In 2019, Turkey received a total of 51.9 million tourists, however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of tourists dropped significantly in 2020 to just 25.3 million. The top countries of origin for tourists visiting Turkey are Russia, Germany, and Bulgaria.

The top countries of origin for tourists visiting Istanbul are Russia, Germany, and Bulgaria. The number of foreign visitors to Istanbul dropped %74 in 2020 compare to 2019.
