Tourism in Turkey : Year 2023

During the first eight months of this year, Turkey received 36 million and 754 thousand tourists, according to a statement by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism on Friday.

The statement indicated that the first 8 months of the year witnessed an increase in the number of tourists by about 14% compared to the same period last year.

Russian tourists came in first place with 4 million 351 thousand and 254, then the Germans with 4 million 82 thousand and 994, while the English came in third place with 2 million 652 thousand and 188.

Last August recorded an increase in the number of tourists by 5.65% compared to the same month last year. German tourists came first, then Russians, then the British, followed by Iranians and Poles.

It should be noted that Turkey's revenues from the tourism sector amounted to about $46.28 billion last year, according to the Turkish Statistics Authority.

Tourism sector income has increased last year by about 53% according to the official data, comparead to the last year revenues, even with the corona epidemic effects, in light of the repercussions of the Russian Ukrainian war, which led to an increase in number of both courntries arrivals.

Statistics Authority data showed that in the last quarter of last year, tourism revenues jumped 22.2% to reach $11.37 billion, and the data showed that the average daily spending per tourist reached $89.

It is noteworthy that the tourism sector in Turkey recorded a previous record high in revenues of $34.5 billion in 2019, before the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Turkish Ministry of Treasury and Finance has set a goal of receiving 60 million foreign tourists in 2023 and increasing tourism revenues to 56 billion dollars this year. The country aims to receive 90 million tourists in 2028, and raise tourism revenues to $100 billion.

The Turkish government attaches great importance to the tourism sector and is constantly working to develop it, as it is one of the most important economic sectors and an important source of national income. The sector enjoys a strong infrastructure, tourist facilities and services that have made it advanced globally.
